Kendall Hotel’s Restaurant Winner of OpenTable’s “Diners’ Choice” List

Kendall Hotel’s Black Sheep restaurant has been named a winner on the February 2014 OpenTable Diners’ Choice list. Our diners have rated the Black Sheep restaurant as one of the best. Check out some of our guest reviews here. View our menus here.

Situated in the lobby of the historic Kendall Hotel, the Black Sheep Restaurant is dedicated to the building’s past as a Victorian firehouse and to fine dining in Cambridge, Mass. The firefighters of Engine 7 considered themselves the “black sheep” of the Cambridge Fire Department, and the Kendall honors their memory with our restaurant. The menu offers daily selections created by our chef using organic and locally grown produce. Our cozy dining room creates a welcoming atmosphere, with a menu offering both classic and innovative American home-style cooking. Our philosophy is simple: purchase the finest and freshest ingredients and let the food absorb them. We offer a full bar and specialize in a selection of locally brewed beers and selected wines from wineries around the United States.

Get a sneak preview of summer at the New England Boat Show

Just when winter in New England starts to wear out its welcome, it’s time for the 2014 New England Boat Show, to be held Feb. 22 through March 2 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Visitors can check out hundreds of new sailboats and powerboats, along with boating gear, marine electronics, accessories, clothing and more. Daily seminars and interactive clinics will cover such topics as engine maintenance, fuel economy, and fiberglass repair. A special exhibit will showcase charts and maps from New England’s maritime past and demonstrate how nautical chart-making influenced our nation’s history.

The New England Boat Show is the largest show of its kind in the Northeast, with over 300,000 square feet of exhibition space. There’s something for every budget and level of expertise.

As always, Kendall Hotel guests can enjoy stress-free transportation into Boston (and no parking hassles!) via the Red Line subway, which stops right across from our front door. Admission to the boat show is $15 for adults and free for kids under 15.

For more info and a schedule of boat show events, see the official website.

Speakeasy Circus celebrates the Roaring 20s with a new twist

If you missed the sold-out performance of the Speakeasy Circus during Boston’s Outside The Box Festival last July, here’s your chance to catch it at Oberon in Cambridge this winter. Presented by the Boston Circus Guild, the Speakeasy Circus is a high-energy, crowd-pleasing production that mixes dance and jazz singing with breathtaking feats of acrobatics – now with all-new acts and characters.

Upcoming performances are on Dec. 30, Jan. 3, and Feb. 7. Following the last show of each evening, the audience is invited to stay for a roaring ‘20s dance party. Thematic costumes are encouraged!

Located at Arrow Street and Massachusetts Ave., Oberon is the second stage of the American Repertory Theater, regularly featuring offbeat and experimental performances. It’s an easy subway ride from the Kendall Hotel (take the red line to Harvard Square). For tickets and schedule info, visit the A.R.T. website. Help Re-Enact the Boston Tea Party on Dec 16th

Even in a town as history-rich as Boston, some anniversaries are special. Like the 240th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party – that famous political demonstration that helped ignite the Revolutionary War.

On December 16, 1771, colonial activists swarmed aboard ships carrying tea from Britain and dumped the cargo into Boston Harbor. They were protesting British rule and the monarchy’s policy of “taxation without representation.” Their act of defiance was followed by a clampdown by the British, which prompted further resistance by the colonists… and we all know how that ended.

Celebrate the 240th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party this Dec. 16 by watching a re-enactment at the very sites where the rebellion took place. Start at the Old South Meeting House at 6:30 p.m. and join the revolutionaries – including Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams – in their debate against the loyalists to the crown. Then accompany a procession to Griffin’s Wharf (with fife and drum) and see the Sons of Liberty spill the despised tea into Boston Harbor.

Tickets to the event include seating at the Old South Meeting House and at a reserved viewing area along Boston’s waterfront. Click here for more information and tickets. Space is limited, so book early!

At The Kendall Hotel, we’re just a quick subway ride from Boston’s greatest historic landmarks. We’re the ideal place for your home base while you’re enjoying the sights and sounds of Boston. Click here to book a room.
