The Kendall Hotel is walking distance to MIT, the neighborhood tech firms, and public transportation that can take you to various corners of Cambridge and Boston. As Kendall Square is ‘the Gateway’ between the two cities, the Hotel is an ideal place from where to explore, or stay while on business.
Boston
The Freedom Trail and trolley tours are pleasurable and informative ways to see Boston. With The Kendall only steps away from the T’s Red Line and the only trolley tour stop in Cambridge, the Hotel is in a prime location to start exploring both cities. Historic, Harvard Square is only two stops heading north, and Central Boston a few stops south where you can connect to other lines that will take you throughout the city.
Central Square & East Cambridge
Central Square & East Cambridge are two interesting areas to explore. A 15 – 20 minute walk northwest of The Hotel (also accessible by the Red Line/ Central Square stop) brings you to the eclectic community of Central square with live music, coffee shops and bars. East Cambridge offers Portuguese bakeries, shopping centers and popular bars and pubs, reflecting the strong Irish and Portuguese heritage.
Kendall Square
Alongside the technology boom came an influx of restaurants, arts, and culture and the neighborhood is brimming with sights, smells and sounds. Wander the area to discover cuisine from around the world, traditional pubs or wine bars. Culture, nature, and seasonal activities can also be found nearby, and of course, across the river is Boston.
Contemporary art can be enjoyed at MIT’s List Visual Arts Center, or on a walking tour through campus. There are several public art displays to enjoy, as well as architecture by Frank Gehry, Eero Saarinen and Fumihiko Maki. The nearby Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center has rotating exhibits from around the world, cultural events and a free summer concert series.
Many parks and green spaces are scattered throughout the neighborhood, and the Square offers outdoor concerts in summer and ice skating in winter. The Kendall Hotel is a short walk to Memorial Drive along the Charles River. If you’re visiting over July 4th, an evening stroll that direction will be rewarded with an impressive fireworks display from a river barge. Across the bridge, the Esplanade park attracts guests and residents.
