Even with the New Year just over, kids [and adults..] are beginning to plan their mid-winter break. Cambridge and Boston offer a host of activities for all ages, and The Kendall Hotel is located right in the middle of a flurry of activity. Being just a short walk from the T, guests of The Kendall can avoid traffic and keep snow-trudging to a minimum, if they prefer.
Our neighbor Kendall Square offers outdoor ice-skating, skating lessons and rentals seven days a week. For indoor skating, the Steriti Rink in Boston is open daily and has expansive windows that overlook the wharf for an outdoor feel. There are several places in the area to sled or snow-tube with various-sized hills for any age, or venture outside the city to one of the nearby skiing slopes for the day.
For those that prefer to be an observer of strenuous activity, check schedules of the local sports teams : hockey with Harvard, Boston University or the Bruins, or Celtics basketball. For those that prefer to be an observer of arts and culture, there are several large museums and attractions where one can easily spend an afternoon — from the Museum of Fine Arts, to the New England Aquarium, to the Museum of Science.
Thursday, February 19th welcomes the Year of the Sheep and marks the beginning of the Chinese Lunar New Year. The Chinese New Year Parade [set for March 1, this year] is the biggest event in Boston’s Chinatown, and features Lion Dancers, drums and firecrackers.
After a day of exploring and activity, come back to The Kendall and warm yourself by the fire in the front lounge, or get a comforting meal at The Black Sheep Restaurant. Explore the historic building, curated artwork, and venture up to the Rooftop Retread for a skyline view of the city.
